The two contested races for Jefferson County Board of Legislators were decided handily Tuesday, as two Republican newcomers defeated a Democratic challenger and ousted a Democratic incumbent.
Republican Jeremiah J. Maxon defeated Democrat Donna J. Bohn, 895-520, for the right to represent Jefferson County Legislative District 10 on the board. The seat, which was held for 17 years by Michael W. Behling, R-Adams, opened up when Mr. Behling announced in June that he would step down at the end of his term.
Mr. Maxon had defeated Republican challenger Jayson J. Jones in the primary election and partially credits his early start knocking on doors with helping to secure his victory over Mrs. Bohn, who did not face a party opponent.
Im glad the election is over. Im pleased with the results and Im humbled by how many people came out to vote for me, Mr. Maxon said.
Mrs. Bohn did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Republican Jonathan L. Hirschey defeated incumbent Michael F. Astafan, D-Carthage, 573-304, for Jefferson County Legislative District 6.
Neither Mr. Hirschey nor Mr. Astafan immediately returned calls seeking comment.
