College volleyball: SUNY Canton splits 2 USCAA matches

CANTON — Jessica Reynolds produced eight kills to lead the SUNY Canton volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-22 win over Johnson & Wales, giving the Kangaroos a split in the opening day of the USCAA national championship tournament.

SUNY Canton (28-6 overall) lost its first match in the round-robin portion of the tournament, falling 15-25, 25-20, 25-12 to Lindenwood Belleville.

Kelsy Cornish added six kills against Johnson & Wales, and Mackenzie Mynter tallied 23 assists.

Morgan Bills and Lindsay Bryer each produced eight kills against Lindenwood Belleville, with Mynter adding 21 assists.

SUNY Canton concludes Pool B play today with matches against Rochester (10 a.m.) and Florida (2:30 p.m.).

If the Kangaroos finish in the top four in the five-team field, they will advance to a quarterfinal match at either 4 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. today.

n Mackenzie Mynter was named to the All-USCAA first team for a second straight year at Wednesday’s pre-championship banquet.

Morgan Bills earned second-team status and Robyn Carroll was honorable mention. Caitlin Grimshaw and Kiana Archer made the all-academic team.
