MASSENA - Massena Central sixth graders and their families enjoyed Astronomy Night held at Madison Elementary hosted by sixth-grade science teachers, Darcie Fregoe, Paige Arcet and Carolyn Frasier. Approximately 170 students and family members enjoyed three presentations: Ms. Susan Mayo, ISS program scientist from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, talked about the International Space Station, NASA and the astronaut program; Clark Stearns, local astronomer, captivated the audience with his homemade telescope and his astronomy tales as they looked through telescopes to experience a cool, October night sky; and David Doe and Rick Marshall, MCHS high school science teachers, heard a lot of “ooohs” and “aaaahs” as they mesmerized groups with a fabulous constellation presentation in the inflatable, STARLAB planetarium.

NASA lunar rock and meteorite samples on loan from Johnson Space Center, a NASA space shuttle tile, and numerous other NASA memorabilia were on display for the children and their families to see, touch, and learn about.
