PAMELIA — A Watertown man suffered an apparent diabetic problem, causing a one-vehicle roll-over accident on Leray Street, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies said.

Roger D. Szurek, 63, of 17481 Route 11, northbound on Leray Street, left the right side of the roadway, crossed Mill Street and hit a utility pole guidewire and two sign posts, deputies said.

They said Mr. Szurek, the sole occupant of the vehicle, then re-entered the roadway, exiting on the right side again, striking a guardrail which caused the vehicle to overturn, coming to a rest on its wheels in a ditch, facing south.

Mr. Szurek then pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to travel about 75 feet in the ditch before coming to a stop, the sheriff’s report said.

The driver was removed from the vehicle using hydraulic extraction equipment.
