OFA wins senior day volleyball match

Sara Richer didn’t play a lot of minutes in OFA’s Senior Night Volleyball match with Edwards-Knox on Wednesday.

But she made the most of it serving the four most important points of a 25-17, 25-23, 27-25 victory.

She served the last two points of the second and third games as the Blue Devils posted a 3-0 sweep for an 8-2 NAC West Division record, an 11-4 overall regular season record.

“It is just nice to have someone like Sara Richer, who just never misses, who you can go to when your team is struggling serving,” said OFA Coach Sue McLean.

“And we were struggling tonight.

The Devils will begin Section 10 Tournament play at home on Monday at 4:30 p.m. hosting Salmon River in the Class C semi-finals while top-seeded Potsdam hosts the winner of Saturday’s 4-5 match between Gouverneur and Canton.

The Section 10 Class C Championship match will be played on Wednesday at Massena Central.

In the Senior Night ceremony libero Jessica Logan, outside hitter Adrianna Compo, middle hitter Taylor Fisher, right side player Shanice Wallace and middle hitter Paige Perry were honored by Coach Sue McLean.

“These seniors are just amazing people and as a team we are in it to win it for the sectionals.”

Paige Perry enjoyed a memorable Senior Night serving for a career high 12 points with two digs and Taylor Fisher delivered 10 kills with one block, two digs, two points and one ace. Sky Hoover served for a team high 12 points with five kills one ace and three digs and Taylor Perry dished out 15 assists with eight aces, nine nines and four assists.

Emma Hart (10 assists, 6 points, 3 kills, 1 dig) and Adrianna Compo (5 points, 2 aces, 5 points, 1 kill) were also very active in the win where Jenny Dalton added a dig.

POTSDAM CLAIMS TITLE

Potsdam 3 - Canton 0: The Stoners clinched the NAC West banner at 9-1 turning back a spirited Senior Day effort by Canton 19-25, 16-25, 30-28.

Junior Sarah Vivlamore anchored the winning effort with nine service points, nine assists, three aces, one kill, one block and 32 sets.

Senior Victoria Mondragon fashioned four points, three aces and two kills while classmate Katie Burke generated five kills, three points, one ace and one block.

Leading the Canton efforts were: Cianna Willmart (3 kills, 7 points, 3 aces), Beth Pearson(2 kills, 2 points, 1 ace) and Colleen Barkley(2 kills, 3 points, 1 ace).

“We were very competitive in every set and finished the regular season on a good note. This was Senior game and we put forth a great effort. Hopefully we can keep the momentum and go far into playoffs,” said Canton Coach Carla Wentworth.
