PARISHVILLE The northeastern section of St. Lawrence Countys multiuse trail is ready to go after hunting season is over.
Thats the culmination of a lot of work, said Legislator Alex A. MacKinnon, R-Fowler, the Board of Legislatures representative on a trail committee.
The signs are up and a roughly 50-mile stretch from Parishville to the Franklin County line, including a pilot trail, will open soon.
The rule for the trails is that during hunting season, the trails are closed, Mr. MacKinnon said.
The trail, meant for many uses such as snowmobiling, hiking, dog sledding, biking and riding all-terrain vehicles eventually will provide a corridor from Lewis County through St. Lawrence County to Franklin County. The North Country Regional Economic Development Council awarded the county $500,000 toward the trail system, which organizers hope will be a draw for tourism and recreation.
The other two sections of the trail will open after various problems are worked out.
