POTSDAM - While the Potsdam Central School District Board of Education’s Finance Committee has yet to meet, the full board adopted the district’s 2014-2015 budget calendar on Tuesday helping to outline this year’s budget crafting process.

Superintendent Patrick H. Brady said the calendar is similar to what the district has used in the past, in the only real change being the dates.

The finance committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 21. According to the now approved, scheduling calendar the committee is expected to receive a state aid update, as well as review plans for the district’s long range fiscal plan and school funding advocacy.

When the committee again meets at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12, it’s expected to set its goals for the budget season, as well as discuss planning for community forums and receive another state aid update.

The committee will review its projections for 2014-2015 on Jan. 9, as well as look at one time expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year. By this time, the governor should have already issued his budget proposal, so that will also be discussed.

Areas of the budget to be reviewed that evening include general support, debt service, transportation, central services, technology, athletics and co-curricular activities.

The committee will review the instruction and supervision budgets, staffing changes, the strategic budget plan, employee benefits, curriculum development, special education and the school lunch budget on Jan. 21.

The board will then review its strategic budget plan on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.

On Feb. 27 the board will review the BOCES budget, anticipated revenues, the strategic budget plan, reserves, projected fund balance and the first draft of the budget, which will be reviewed by the full board on March 11 at 6:30 p.m.

The finance committee will then update the draft budget when it meets on March 20. It will also receive a state budget update, as well as discuss a potential contingency budget, and bus purchase proposal.

An analysis and final review of the spending plan will be held at 6 p.m. on April 8, and the full board is scheduled to approve the budget when it meets at 6:30 p.m. April 22.

A public hearing on the final, adopted budget will be held at 6:30 p.m. May 13, with the final budget vote being held from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 20.
