MASSENA - A Massena man whose blood alcohol content nearly three times the level for a driving while intoxicated charge was held in the village lockup overnight following a traffic stop on King Street.

Village police charged Josh R. Beamish, 35, of 68 Curtis Ave., Massena, with aggravated driving while intoxicated and ticketed him for speed in zone, failure to keep right and making an improper signal following a traffic stop at 2:26 a.m. Friday.

He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.23 percent, nearly three times the 0.08 level that constitutes a DWI charge.

Beamish reportedly was observed traveling 44 mph in a 30 mph zone on East Orvis Street and failed to signal when he turned from Bayley Road onto Curtis Avenue as he headed home from a downtown Massena business.

He had also been charged with driving while intoxicated and ticketed him for speed not reasonable and prudent at 1:04 a.m. Feb. 28 after police responded to a report of vehicle in the ditch on Park Avenue at Beach Street. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.16 percent at the time of that incident. That case is still pending in Massena Village Court, with Beamish’s next scheduled court appearance on the case on Nov. 19.

He was arraigned Friday morning by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,000 cash.
