CRIMINAL OBSTRUCTION BREATHING - MASSENA - Village police picked up Charles R. Murdie, 33, of 259 County Route 43, Massena, on an arrest warrant charging him with criminal obstruction of breathing and second-degree harassment at 8:03 p.m. Thursday.
He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released on his own recognizance to reappear Tuesday in village court. The court also signed a temporary order of protection directing Murdie to stay away from Katie Mattison.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on Feb. 8 when the couple were dating. She said she was sleeping when Murdie woke her up and started yelling at her for not listening to him. She said he became incensed when she told him she wasnt listening to him because she had been sleeping.
He reportedly told Mattison he was going to kill her, threw her down on a couch and grabbed her by the throat and neck so she couldnt breath.
She said he was eventually able to get free but Murdie grabbed her by the throat again and as struggled to breath she punched him in the groin. She said he responded by punching her in the eye and then in the stomach, hours after she had told him she was pregnant.
Mattisons baby was born earlier this month.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - MASSENA - Village police charged Benjamin C. Lapp, 17, of 16 Haskell St., Massena, with fourth-degree criminal mischief at 5:41 p.m. Thursday stemming from an incident that had taken place the previous evening. He reportedly damaged a dresser and nightstand after being confronted about showing respect to adults during an incident at his uncles home at 24 Highland Drive. Lapp and his mother have been staying at the Dana G. Parnaby residence since April. Lapp also reportedly punched holes in the sheetrock. He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released on his own recognizance into the custody of his mother. The court noted in its securing order that Lapp is currently involved in chemical dependency treatment and attending school. Lapp is scheduled to reappear Tuesday in village court.
AGGRAVATED UNLICENSED OPERATION - MASSENA - Village police charged Theresa M. Dissottle, 25, of 74 North Main St., Apt. 3, Massena, with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at 5:35 p.m. Thursday following a traffic stop on Main Street.
UNLICENSED OPERATION - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Jeffrey P. Brown, 29, of Route 37, Massena, for operation of an unregistered motor vehicle and operation of a vehicle with an inadequate exhaust at 8:38 p.m. Thursday following a traffic stop on North Main Street.
INADEQUATE STOP LAMPS - MASSENA - Village police ticketed Denise R. Bonville, 43, of County Route 51, Winthrop, for operation of a vehicle with inadequate plate lamps and inadequate stop lamps at 8:27 p.m. Thursday following a traffic stop on Main Street.
