RUSSELL - A late-season loss on the road to Edwards-Knox put Potsdam Central’s hopes of claiming sole possession of the 2013 NAC West Division regular season title in jeopardy on Monday.

“The Edwards-Knox girls really worked hard and we just had an off night,” said coach Julia Pahler after the Lady Sandstoners fell in three straight sets to the underdog Lady Cougars by scores of 26-25, 25-14, 25-17 in suffering their first loss to a division rival.

Potsdam entered the match unbeaten atop the West standings at 8-0 and will close out the regular season on the road against Canton on Wednesday needing a win to capture the league title for a second straight year.

The duo of Victoria Mondragon (5 aces, 2 kills) and Erica Mason (1 ace) led Potsdam, now 12-2 overall, with 12 service points each.

The other NAC matches on Monday saw OFA sweep Madrid-Waddington (25-15, 25-21, 25-17), Canton beat Gouverneur in three straight (25-14, 28-18, 25-13) and Chateaugay dropped Tupper Lake 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-19).

OFA 3, M-W 0: In Madrid, a14-point, 13 assist double-double by Emma Hart (7 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig) anchored the OFA cause. Adrianna Compo (12 points, 3 assists, 6 digs, 2 kills), Taylor Fisher (7 points, 4 aces, 9 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks) and Terry Perry (12 assists, 3 digs, 4 kills, 5 points) also made key all-around contributions.

Leading the M-W (4-11, 3-6) effort were Dia Richards with 13 points and five assists and Jazmine Trombley with six digs and four points.

Canton 3, Gouverneur 0: At Jerry Hourihan Gym, the host Lady Bears were led by Rachel Sanderson with 12 points, two aces and two assists. Megan Howard tallied eight points and two kills.

Mackenzie McBride (11 points, 4 aces, 2 digs), Lauren Infield (5 points, 1 ace), Raelelle Durham (3 kills, 2 digs, 2 points) and Autumn Ashley (7 sets, 2 assists, 1 kill, 2 digs) led Gouverneur’s efforts.
