Watertown City Council candidate Stephen A. Jennings has been endorsed by a former opponent.

Rodney J. LaFave, who ran an unsuccessful primary campaign, announced Tuesday that he is supporting Mr. Jennings in the Nov. 5 election.

Mr. LaFave pointed to Mr. Jennings’s more than 18 years of professional government experience and active service in the community.

“Steve demonstrates the class, professionalism and integrity the residents of Watertown deserve in a council member. Additionally, he possesses the knowledge, experience and motivation required to improve and sustain the capacities of our economy, neighborhoods and all people,” Mr. LaFave wrote in a press release.

He also said he likes Mr. Jennings’s proposals to improve blighted neighborhoods. Mr. Jennings has come out in support of Mr. LaFave’s proposal for a city rental inspection program.

Mr. Jennings faces incumbents Teresa R. Macaluso and Jeffrey M. Smith and newcomer Cody J. Horbacz in the race for two seats on the council.
