Massena spikers sweep Gouverneur; SLC swimmers fall to OFA

The Massena Central varsity girls volleyball team swept its way to an interdivisional win over Gouverneur while the St. Lawrence Central girls swim team dropped a Division I decision to OFA in NAC action on Monday.

Massena 3, Gouverneur 0: At the Massena High School gym, the Lady Raiders moved to 6-5 overall after turning back the Lady Wildcats (0-11) in three straight 25-7, 25-16, 25-9. Samanntha Villnave served up 18 points and blocked a shot to anchor the winning effort. Krista Loran chipped in another 12 points.

Massena returned to the court this Wednesday for an East Division matchup against undefeated Chateaugay starting at 4:30 p.m.

In the other NAC volleyball match staged on Monday, Franklin Academy outlasted OFA in five sets.

OFA 49, SLC 45: In the lone varsity swim meet of the day, the host Lady Larries won the majority of the events but were denied the NAC victory.

SLC opened the meet by claiming the 200 medley relay with the quartet of Taylor Capozzi, Alex Craft, Hailey Arquiett and Madee Derouchie posting the winning time of 2:10.83.

Craft went on to lead the individual scoring for the Lady Larries with wins in the 50 freestyle (28.30 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:21.20). Arquiett later paced the 100 butterfly in 1:13.89 while Carrie Ramsdell led the 500 freestyle in 6:34.69 to account for the other solo first.

The Lady Larries closed out the meet on a positive note with Derouchie and Ramsdell combining with Breanna Anderson and Chelsea Savage to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:32.91.

Susie Morrow led the Lady Blue Devils (5-2) with wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

SLC (4-3) is slated to swim at undefeated Division I leading Canton on Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.
