MASSENA - Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley is pleased to announce its annual fall dining event, Tastes of Autumn, will be held on Oct. 20, hosted once again by Dominic and Ross Violi at Violi’s Restaurant in Massena.

Make your reservation today for this major fundraiser, with seatings every half hour between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The per-person price is just $40.00. Seating is limited and a cash bar will be available. The deadline for reservations is Friday.

Returning as 2013 Tastes chef is Dr. Bill Orlando of Massena’s Orlando Chiropractic. John VanKennan and Kyle Mayette of Clarkson University’s ARAMARK will also lend us their talents for the day as chef and kitchen expediter. Rick Fregoe of Massena will join us for his first experience as chef at Tastes of Autumn.

This year, Tastes chefs will offer four culinary creations. Dr. Orlando will prepare a tender filet of Mahi-Mahi topped with a sweet potato crust served on a sweet potato risotto cake over a red roasted pepper coulis.

VanKennen will prepare beef tenderloin from nearby Kilcoyne Farms with a sweet potato turnip hash, smoked bacon and cabernet reduction.

Fregoe will prepare a smoky bacon roast chicken served with a warm artichoke and a tomato Panzanella salad lightly dressed with a lemony vinaigrette. John will also offer a vegetarian dish of sweet potato gnocchi served with arrowhead spinach and brown butter.

All of these Tastes entrees will be accompanied by delicious soup, salad, bread and desserts from local businesses and organizations including The Italian American Civic Association, BOCES Culinary Arts program, First Crush, SUNY Canton, Karen LeCuyer, A Touch of Icing and SUNY Potsdam.

Members of the Massena Rotary Club will once again offer their skills as guest wait staff for the event. Hospice board member, Lainey Scott, returns as event chair.

To date, corporate sponsors for Tastes are Phillips Memorial Home, Donaldson Funeral Home and Canton- Potsdam Hospital as Five Star Sponsors.

Three Star Sponsors for the event are Seacomm Federal Credit Union and St. Lawrence Business Services.

The Two Star sponsors are Hannaford and Blevins Seaway Motors.

Interested businesses or individuals can call Kellie Hitchman at 265-3105 or email her at khitchman@hospiceslv.org, for more information about event sponsorships.

Reservations can be made by calling Hospice at 265-3105 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. through Friday and should include your entrée choices and two requests for seating time. Payment in advance is encouraged.
