Waterways of War: The War of 1812 by Steve Benson and Ron Toelke is a 72-page, full-color guide to the battlegrounds stretching from Plattsburgh in northeastern New York to the shores of Lake Erie in western Pennsylvania.
Published by the Sackets Harbor-based Great Lakes Seaway Trail tourism organization for the wars bicentennial, the book provides insight to the key battles fought on American and Canadian soil as well as on the strategic waterways separating the two countries.
The book is sold at historic sites along the Seaway Trail and through www.seawaytrail.com. It is a companion to the guidebook the group published in 2009 to mark the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War.
