College roundup: Kirkemo elevates Clarkson past St. Lawrence

CANTON – Victoria Kirkemo produced 12 kills to lead the Clarkson University volleyball team to a 25-8, 25-15, 27-25 sweep of St. Lawrence University in a Liberty League match Wednesday evening.

Aishvina Arasu added 10 kills for the Golden Knights (9-4 overall, 1-0 conference), and Lani Durio produced 38 assists.

Lexi Brown provided six kills, and Jenna Street added 14 assists for the Sains (8-5, 0-1).

MEN’S SOCCER

CLARKSON 3, SUNY CANTON 0

The Golden Knights snapped a five-game losing streak by shutting out SUNY Canton (3-5) in a nonconference game in Potsdam.

Clarkson (2-5) scored first on an own goal in the 18th minute. Angelo DiFrancesco set up Clarkson’s next two goals on shots by Brendan Wise in the 50th minute and Marco Parisi in the 78th.

Michael King made seven saves for the shutout.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

SUNY PoTSDAM 2, SUNY CANTON 0

The Bears held SUNY Canton (3-4) to six shots in a nonconference victory in Potsdam.

Kristin Webster scored the first goal for SUNY Potsdam (3-4-1) in the sixth minute, and Kaylen Van Wagner added a goal in the 22nd minute.

BROOME CC 8, JEFFERSON CC 0

Danielle Tyrrell scored a pair of goals to pace the nationally-ranked Hornets to a Mid-State Athletic Conference victory in Binghamton.

Julia Dober scored a goal and assisted on another for Broome CC (8-0-1, 5-0-1).

Kate Gehrke made 28 saves for the Cannoneers (1-5, 1-1).
