COLTON South Colton resident Kirk H. Robideau has requested permission to complete road maintenance work at a Route 56 property owned by the town and, while the Town Council wasnt quite ready to grant him approval to move forward with the project at a recent meeting, his plan did not meet with opposition.
A resident of Sugar Bush Lane, Mr. Robideau is asking to perform work at 3925 Route 56.
I would like to fix that up. That road comes down through to the town property roughly about 30 to 40 feet. The driveway comes onto the towns property, he said. Id like to get permission to fix that road up to make it look better, for one thing.
According to Councilwoman Katheryn Hayes, the area is town property that was given to the municipality by a resident in the past and used to be the site of a church. She said the area has not been used for quite some time, and the town would like to expand the location into a parking lot for the soccer field or community center.
We intend to extend that area eventually; were just waiting for the town supervisor to come back, Ms. Hayes said.
Mr. Robideau also noted there had been discussions about installing a parking lot for the community center at the location.
However, with concerns over the possibility of people parking on both sides of the road, along with cars traveling on Sugar Bush Lane, the plan never moved forward.
If they do do that, I would pay for the materials to incorporate that driveway so it looks the same, Mr. Robideau said. I just want it to all kind of look the same, squared off. So thats just kind of where Im at with that.
Ms. Hayes, who ran the meeting in Supervisor Dennis B. Bulgers absence, said Highway Superintendent Kevin S. Hawley made her aware of Mr. Robideaus interest in the project.
Kevin mentioned to me that you had talked to him about it and he would be supportive of trying to get the parking area put in with the understanding that if you use part of it as a driveway, it would just have to be so that you understood that, if theres something going on, theres going to be a problem with using that part of the driveway, probably, she said. Other than that, I think that hes supportive of the idea. I think were eventually going to need that parking area anyway.
