MASSENA - The Advance Auto Parts store at 351 South Main St. closed early Tuesday night after a repair job in the front parking lot went badly.

Village police said Jeffrey A. Guyette, 18, of 87 Martin St., Massena, was on the running board of a 1991 pickup working on wiring to the starter, not realizing the parked truck was in second gear. When he made a connection, the truck lurched forward and slammed through the front doors of Advance Auto before Mr. Guyette reached in and turned the vehicle off.

Police said Marissa M. Orton, 17, of 140 Liberty Ave., Apt. 4, Massena, was in the driver’s seat when the incident occurred. The truck was registered to Jeffrey G. Guyette, 42, also of 87 Martin St.

No one was injured inside the store, and police said the younger Mr. Guyette suffered only a laceration.

The store entrance suffered significant damage, with the framing collapsing.

A village code enforcement officer responded to the accident scene Tuesday night and ruled the store could reopen Wednesday morning if a different door was used for entering and leaving the store. The store was closed following the 7:15 p.m. incident to allow crews to take steps to secure the building until necessary repairs could be made.
