SACKETS HARBOR — Healthy eating means healthy communities.

That is the message that Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York hopes to send to attendees of its Farm to Table benefit, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Woolsey Manor Bed and Breakfast, 206 E. Main St.

“The concept is drawing local food and health and providing for the community, a healthy community,” said Martha P. Spear, Planned Parenthood development director. “Fundraising helps us to dream and grow.”

Ms. Spear said the fundraiser can accommodate up to 50 people, who will feast on local foods prepared by chef Janet M. “Boo” Wells while hearing from agency officials and guest speaker Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell, D-Theresa.

Programs and services that will benefit directly from the fundraiser are Planned Parenthood’s family planning, community health worker and education initiatives. Ms. Spear said she’d like to raise $8,000 from the event, through ticket fees of $65 per person, sponsorships and general donations.

“Equally important is making new friends, and getting our name out in the community,” she said. “We need people to know we have these services available. So many people are getting insurance soon that haven’t had it before.”

Planned Parenthood of the North Country New York can help with that, Ms. Spear said. The agency provides family planning, reproductive health care, education and advocacy services in Clinton, Franklin, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. According to its website, nearly 12,000 men, women and teenagers visit the agency’s seven health centers across the region each year. Planned Parenthood also “promotes public policy which supports every person’s fundamental right to decide when or whether to have a child.”

A sexual assault hotline for people in Clinton and Franklin counties is operated by the agency. People can call that line at 877-212-2323.

To reserve a fundraiser ticket, call Jane Spencer at 782-1818, ext. 236, by Sunday. Emails also can be sent to her, at jane.spencer@ppncny.org.
