H-D, Lisbon Continue Rolls

DEKALB JUNCTION – After starting the season with a 1-0 setback to Lisbon at home, the Hermon-DeKalb Girls Soccer team has mounted a three-game win streak downing previously unbeaten Hammond 2-0 on Tuesday in NAC West Division play.

“We played pretty well and we are improving,” said H-D coach Jan Merchant whose team improved to 3-1.

“Defensively, we played well.”

Chelsey MacKay anchored the defense making 14 saves with astute backfield help from Courtney Harrington, Paige Whitton, Courtnay Davis and Grace Smith.

In the first half, Brooke Woodrow scored from Kasey O’Donnell in the 22nd minute. Three minutes later, Bridget Rust scored from O’Donnell.

Cassie Whalen made 17 saves for Hammond (1-4 overall) which fell to 1-4.

Lisbon remained unbeaten at 3-0-1, 4-0-1 over with a 3-1 decision at Morristown. The Edwards-Knox vs Heuvelton contest was rescheduled.

Lisbon 3, Morristown 1: The Knights reeled off three first half goals downing the Rockets as Golden Knight scoring leader Maddie Vine connected from Beth Crowley in the fifth minute. Rileigh Mee scored in the 18th and 26th minutes for a 3-0 lead. Courtney Green logged an assist on the third goal.

Morristown broke Jackie Sovie’s shutout in the 42nd minute from Hailey Whitmarsh. Sovie stopped 15 shots for Lisbon and Samantha Green made 28 saves for Morristown (0-3-1).
