OFA and Madrid-Waddington posted well-earned NAC Girls Volleyball victories on Tuesday gearing up for an NAC West meeting on the Blue Devils court on Thursday.
The Devils secured a 25-17, 29-27 and 25-23 victory at E-K on Tuesday while M-W bested Gouverneur 25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 25-7 at home. In NAC Central Girls Soccer action on Thursday undefeated Malone shut out OFA 10-0.
OFA WINS THIRD STRAIGHT
OFA (3-1) recorded its third straight win on night when Coach Sue McLean said nothing came easy.
We struggled with our serving and E-K defended well and did a good job finding the holes, said Coach McLean.
The key for us was keeping our heads together after we made a mistake and our hitting was very good. And Grace Mashaw was our unsung hero. We were trailing 19-17 in the second game and she went out served us into the lead and came back and scored points in the third game.
Mashaw finished with six points and a dig and Emma Hart shifted from setter to hitter and delivered seven kills to go along with five points, one ace, three assists and four digs in a strong defensive effort. A well-balanced OFA outing also featured: Taylor Fisher (9 kills, 7 points, 1 ace), Sky Hoover (7 kills, 5 digs, 1 assist, 2 points, 2 aces), Taylor Perry (4 kills with three from back row, 11 assists, 5 digs, 13 points, 6 aces), Adrianna Compo (8 points, 4 aces, 2 digs) and Paige Perry (3 kills, 4 points, 2 aces).
JACKETS EVEN RECORD
M-W evened its record at 2-2 and bounced back from consecutive losses to win a four-game set over a spirited Gouverneur squad. We came back strong after Gouverneur won that second game, said M-W Coach Troy Creurer.
The Jackets received strong leadership from six players in: Dia Richards with 23 points, six aces and four kills; Brittani Dawley with 16 points, five aces and six assists, Sophia Roome with four blocks and eight kills, Janelle Trombley with 10 points and four digs, Jenny King with 12 points, four kills and four digs and Jazmine Tremblay with six digs.
OFA LADY BOOTERS FALL TO MALONE
Malone 10, OFA 0: Abigail Collins (1 assist) and Morgan Fountain netted two goals apiece to lead a balanced offense as the Lady Huskies (3-0 Central) built a commanding 5-0 halftime lead. Katelyn Fouse tallied a goal and two assists. Liz Kelly, Makayla Pickering, Katlynn Allen, Katie Lamica (1 assist) and Annie Sharlow struck for the other goals. Jayme Lavoie (1 save) and Meghan OConnor (0 saves) shared crease duties.
For OFA (1-2), Jordyn Marcellus handled 18 shots in goal.
Potsdam 1, Canton 0: Annette Rishe generated the only goal of the game 18 minutes into the first half for the 3-0 Stoners. The Lady Bears pressed for the equalizer through the later stages of the second half but a pair of saves by Bre Sapp (9 saves), Meghan Martinez finished with nine saves for Canton.
Gouverneur 2, Massena 1:The 0-3 Raiders Abby LaClair opened the scoring but the Wildcats(1-1) answered as Emily Bush converted on a penalty kick and Noelle Carbone then relayed a lead pass up the middle from Kara Cummings into a breakaway goal with 17 minutes left.
