POTSDAM - The Potsdam Central varsity girls volleyball team continued its strong start on Tuesday with a sweep at home over NAC rival Canton Central.
Victoria Mondragon (5 aces) and Elna Daby (2 aces) led the way from the service line with 11 points as the Lady Sandstoners, who won by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-8, improved to 5-0. Mondragon also worked the net for nine kills while Sarah Vivlamore tallied nine points, two aces, one kill, two blocks, 30 sets and 13 assists. Katie Burke also made lead all-around contributions with seven points, six aces and 13 kills.
The Lady Sandstoners put their undefeated record on the line Thursday when they hit the road to take on Brushton-Moira.
In the other NAC volleyball action on Tuesday, OFA beat Edwards-Knox in three straight while Madrid-Waddington turned back Gouverneur in four sets.
OFA 3, E-K 0: In Russell, the visiting Blue Devils secured a 25-17, 29-27 and 25-23 victory for their third straight win
Grace Mashaw finished with six points and a dig and Emma Hart shifted from setter to hitter and delivered seven kills to go along with five points, one ace, three assists and four digs in a strong defensive effort.
M-W 3, Gouverneur 1: In Madrid, the host Yellowjackets, evened their record at 2-2 and bounced back from consecutive losses to win a four-game set over Gouveneur 25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 25-7.
We came back strong after Gouverneur won that second game, said M-W Coach Troy Creuer.
The Jackets received strong leadership from six players in: Dia Richards with 23 points, six aces and four kills; Brittani Dawley with 16 points, five aces and six assists, Sophia Roome with four blocks and eight kills, Janelle Trombley with 10 points and four digs, Jenny King wirth 12 points, four kills and four digs and Jasmine Tremblay with six digs.
