CANTON – St. Lawrence County united Sunday in a movement to end the nations sixth-leading cause of death. Participants in the 2013 Walk To End Alzheimers raised $33,500 for the Alzheimers Association, Central New York Chapter.
Funds raised at the event, which started at Partridge Run Golf & Country Club and continued on the Remington Recreation Trail, support the Chapters commitment to defeat Alzheimers disease, and individuals and families dealing with a diagnosis.
Nearly 200 walkers participated in a three-mile walk, registered for clinical trials and shared their voice with elected officials. The opening ceremony featured an emotional tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimers disease.
The leading fundraiser was Massena resident Lucia Johnson with $4,508. Her team, Memory Keepers, was the leading friends and family team with $7,293 raised. Community Bank, N.A., raised $906 to earn the top corporate team award. United Journey, a team of residents and staff from the United Helpers Maplewood campus in Canton, was the top senior care team with $4,484 raised.
