MORRISTOWN - In an effort to revitalize the village volunteers are planning a “Morristown Village Pride Day” for community members to gather together and beautify downtown.

Volunteers plan on mowing, trimming trees, edging and picking up litter on Sept. 21.

Valerie Harman, who is helping to organize the event, said she is “excited” about the chance to breathe new life into the village’s downtown.

The cleanup will focus on Main Street, Mrs. Harman said, with efforts branching out from the Public Library.

“We’ve got to start someplace,” Mayor Cheryl A. Shatraw said. “I think it’s a great idea.”

Volunteers will also remove trash and debris free of charge for people who are interested. Residents only have to place their garbage in bags at the roadside on the day of the event and volunteers will remove them.

The village will be supporting the efforts of volunteers by donating hotdogs, rolls and charcoal for a potluck dinner after the Pride Day.

Mrs. Shatraw said the effort is worthwhile and the village would get hotdogs for however many volunteers show up. The meal will be served at the village boat ramp around 4 p.m. Anyone who wants to bring a covered dish is invited to do so.

Volunteers are being asked to bring wheel barrels, clippers, edgers, blowers, shovels and brooms if they have them.

Anyone who wants to volunteer should call Sharon Gravel, 375-0037, or Mado Perrott, 375-3051.

Mrs. Harman said the cleanup will be held rain or shine and will concentrate on the area between the sidewalk and the road.

The Morristown Village Pride Day will begin at 10 a.m. on Sept. 21 and continue until 3 p.m.
