A two-car accident Friday afternoon on Route 3 at the entrance to Salmon Run Mall in the town of Watertown turned fatal Saturday when one of the five people injured died at a Syracuse hospital.
Phyllis C. West, 81, Adams, was flown to Upstate Medical University after being extricated from the passenger seat of a 2007 Toyota sedan, where she was trapped. She later died of her injuries.
The sedan was driven by Faith G. Bettinger, 69, Adams, who turned left into the path of a 2005 Mercury SUV being driven west on Route 3 by Dawn M. Knight, 40, Watertown, about 2:20 p.m., resulting in Ms. Knights vehicle striking the front passenger door of Mrs. Bettingers sedan.
In an accident report released Friday to the media, sheriffs deputies said that Ms. Knight had the right of way.
Mrs. Bettinger, Ms. Knight and two other passengers in Ms. Knights vehicle were taken to Samaritan Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
A third passenger in Ms. Knights vehicle was not injured.
