The state Division of Veterans Affairs office will open Monday at its new location, 209 Ford St.

The office was formerly located on the second floor of the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES satellite building, the Washington Education Center, at 616 Rensselaer Ave.

“It’s a very suitable location,” said Thomas Robinson, the office’s director. “One level and no stairs.”

The agency’s next door neighbor and landlord is Wallace E. Rock Amvets Post No. 19.

Both parties agree that they make a good fit.

“They’ve been very supportive,” Mr. Robinson said.

The sentiment is mutual.

“We’re proud to have them,” said Post 19 Commander Donald B. Cooke.

Both men agree that the downtown location proximity to City Hall, banks, Department of Motor Vehicles satellite office and Social Security office is a major benefit.

“Everything is within walking distance,” Mr. Cooke said.

The office’s hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The telephone number is 393-0580.
