OGDENSBURG - The host team outlasted Norwood-Norfolk in regulation while Lisbon advanced past Heuvelton via penalty kicks in the first round of OFA Girls Soccer Tournament on Tuesday.
Both games also served as NAC season openers for all four teams as the Lady Blue Devils turned back N-N 1-0 in a Central Division matchup while Lisbon and Heuvelton battled to what will stand as a 2-2 West Division tie before the Lady Knights earned a bid to the tournament final by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 4-3 in the shootout. The title game is slated for this evening at 8 p.m. while N-N and Heuvelton square off in the consolation game at 6 p.m. Both games are slated for the OFA football field.
OFA 1, N-N 0: Riley Luckie finished off a play set up by Taylor Smith with less than five minutes left in regulation and the Lady Blue Devils made it stand as the game-winner.
Megan Plumb handled six shots backstopping the Lady Flyer effort while Kirsten Snyder made eight saves working the crease for the shutout.
Lisbon 2, Heuvelton 2 (Lisbon wins shootout 4-3): After battling to a 1-1 draw through regulation, the teams traded overtime goals to finish tied at 2-2 heading into penalty kicks where the Lady Knights outscored the Lady Bulldogs to advance to the tournament final.
Maddie Vine opened the scoring for Lisbon in the 15th minute of the game with an unassisted goal before Alex Weidner pulled Heuvelton even in the 32nd assisted by Hannah Thornhill.
The teams then went scoreless through the second half and went into overtime where Weidner gave the Lady Bulldogs their only lead of the game when she converted off an assist from Maddie St. Pierre in the first minute. Vine sent the game to a shootout when she broke through for an unassisted goal six minutes later.
Scoring goals in the shootout for Lisbon were Beth Crowley, Maeve Bowdish, Hannah Richardson and Jackie Sovie, who went the distance in goal turning aside 15 of the shots she faced. Connecting for Heuvelton were Hannah Thornhill, Rachel Thornhill and Alex Steele while Paige McCormick posted seven saves working the crease.
