LOWVILLE A Port Leyden man was accused of attempting to throw away methamphetamine he allegedly had in his pocket after being stopped by Lewis County sheriffs deputies.
Deputies said James R. Sullivan, 35, of 3503 Route 12, was stopped early Saturday on the South State Street bridge for allegedly driving with a broken windshield.
During the stop, he allegedly became agitated, and when deputies attempted to detain him, he reached into his front pockets and tried throw the contents over the bridge. It later was determined the items tested positive for the controlled substance.
Charged at 1:58 a.m. with tampering with physical evidence, obstruction of governmental administration and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, he was held at the Lewis County jail on $5,000 bail.
Aiding in the arrest were village and state police, along with Upstate Auto Recovery.
