POTSDAM Two men accused of breaking the jaw of a Clarkson University lacrosse player early Saturday turned themselves in to village police Thursday.
Bryan A. Bicknell, 20, of 342 West Parishville Road, Parishville, and Dakota J. Vallance, 18, of 399 Buckton Road, Winthrop, were arraigned Thursday night in Village Court by Judge Margaret I. Garner on felony second-degree assault charges. They were released under probation supervision and were scheduled to return to court Sept. 6.
It is alleged that at 1:52 a.m. Saturday, the two men attacked Donald J.F. Whelley, 21, on Maple Street, leaving him with a broken jaw, orbital fracture and facial cuts, according to court documents. It was unknown whether the pair had any relationship with the victim.
Daniel R. Netter, 22, Fayetteville, told police he found Mr. Whelley in front of the former Honda dealership on Maple Street trying to sit up after being assaulted. Mr. Whelley was bleeding from the head, according to Mr. Netter, who called 911.
According to the Clarkson lacrosse website roster and his Facebook profile page, Mr. Whelley, a sophomore at the college, is a native of Catonsville, Md. His local address and condition were unavailable.
