Two indicted by St. Lawrence County Grand Jury

CANTON — A St. Lawrence County Grand Jury handed up a pair of indictments Thursday to a New York City woman and a St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center patient.

Nekeda Smith, 38, 245 Wortman Ave., 6E, Brooklyn is being indicted on one count of first-degree promoting prison contraband, a class D felony.

It is alleged that on May 11, Ms. Smith knowingly and unlawfully introduced a razor blade into the Riverview correctional Facility in Ogdensburg. She was subsequently arrested by state police and remanded to St. Lawrence County jail.

On June 4, Ms. Smith pleaded not guilty to the charges in St. Lawrence County Court and was released on a continued bail bond of $10,000.

James E. Davis, 26, 1 Chimney Point Dr., Ogdensburg was indicted on two counts of second-degree assault, a class D felony and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

It is alleged that on July 15, Mr. Davis, a patient at the psych center, stabbed Thomas McDougal, a theory aide at the center, in the left cheek with a metal butter knife.

The Grand Jury also alleged that on July 19, Mr. Davis stabbed Chinyere Ukomadu, a psychologist at the center, in the neck with a pencil.

The two were treated at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center emergency room and released.
