Clarkson earns Education Fundraising Award

POTSDAM - Clarkson University has been awarded the 2013 Education Fundraising Award for Overall Improvement from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The citation, signed by CASE President John Lippincott and CASE Board Chair Paul E. Sheff, reads: “The CASE Educational Fundraising Awards honor superior fundraising programs at educational institutions across the country. We congratulate your staff, volunteer leaders and donors for notable achievement in advancing the mission of your institution. It is with great pride that the Council for Advancement and Support of Education honors Clarkson University with an Educational Fundraising Award for Overall Improvement.”

Clarkson is one of only three institutions to be honored in 2013 for Overall Improvement in Category 1: Private Research/Doctoral Institutions. The others were Duquesne University and Texas Christian University (TCU). The Overall Performance winners in Category 1: Private Research/Doctoral Institutions were Brown, Harvard, Stanford and Yale.

The award is based on data Clarkson submits annually to the Council for Aid to Education’s Voluntary Support of Education (VSE) survey and a three-year review of trends in fundraising results.

Clarkson’s overall fundraising results in those three years were: fiscal year 2010 - $6.676 million; fiscal year 2011 - $9.859 million; and fiscal year 2012 - $11.616 million.

“This award represents a terrific achievement for the Clarkson community and the University,” said Clarkson President Tony Collins. “We are incredibly thankful to our donors, whose generosity made this award possible.”

“The E2E Campaign has definitely propelled increased giving from our alumni, individuals, corporations and foundations,” said John Brilbeck ’68, co-chair of Clarkson’s ongoing Evolution to Excellence (E2E) fundraising campaign. “It is gratifying to be recognized alongside institutions like Duquesne and TCU, as well as Stanford and the Ivies.”

The E2E Campaign is shaping both what Clarkson looks like today and helping underwrite the vision for Clarkson’s future. As of July 31, 2013, Clarkson has raised commitments totaling $220.13 million toward the campaign’s $225 million goal.

“We nearly doubled our yearly gift revenue over the period of evaluation, which led to this welcome award,” said Dick Johnson, vice president for philanthropy and alumni relations. “Clarkson’s fundraising success is directly attributed to the generosity of our donors and the hard work and diligence of our staff and numerous, dedicated Clarkson volunteers. We want to extend our gratitude and congratulations to everyone who has contributed to the E2E Campaign. Together, these thousands of donors have helped improve the Clarkson experience for current students and enable new resources, which will strengthen the experience of future students.”
