LISBON - Planned renovations to the Parkway Ford dealership, 9890 Route 37, have been moved to mid-January as the dealership works to get final approval from the town to start the project.
The project received approval by the town Planning Board Monday, but construction cannot begin until the dealership gets a building permit from the town. The business is currently awaiting a cost estimate from Ford, and Lisbon Code Enforcement Officer Christopher J. Sherwin said he will issue a building permit for the project once a cost estimate has been submitted.
Mr. Sherwin said he expects to have the estimate within the next several weeks.
The dealership had planned to begin construction in November. Mike T. Webster, Parkway Ford director of operations, said the project will see a complete overhaul of the building that will bring it in line with other Ford dealerships across the nation.
It was totally designed by Ford, Mr. Webster said of the project.
Mr. Webster said he expects the project to be complete by next summer. Because a substantial amount of the project will focus on renovations to the buildings interior, much of the work will be completed during the winter, Mr. Sherwin said.
Mr. Webster said there will be a new reception area with wireless Internet access and more comfortable seating will be installed, along with a drive-in service area.
It will be one of the most state-of-the-art car dealerships in St. Lawrence County when its completed, he said.
While most of the project will be focused on the interior, the building will also get a new facade built over the current overhang on the front of the building, Mr. Webster said.
The renovation project has been planned since the dealership moved its Potsdam Ford location to Lisbon last year.
