Habitat agency to host Aug. 17 warehouse sale

The Thousand Islands Area Habitat for Humanity will host a warehouse sale next month to make extra cash and more room for building needs.

The 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17 sale at the warehouse, next to Space Age Pools, 22737 Route 11, will feature items for both home improvement and commercial projects.

“We try to do it every couple of years to clean out the warehouse,” said Brian R. Drappo, Building Committee chairman. “We look at what we can use. Sometimes there’s off pieces we wouldn’t necessarily use, but someone could use for home improvement.”

A majority of the items have been donated to the agency for previous home builds. Mr. Drappo said he doesn’t want to see leftover products go to waste.

“With the warehouse, it’s not heated,” he said. “It’s more of a shelter. For liquids, it’s not good to hold them there in the winter.”

A partial list of items to be sold at the sale is on the agency’s website and includes brown and tan bricks, miscellaneous vinyl siding, roofing shingles, window wells, toilet tanks, sinks, closet doors, attic folding staircase, track lighting, ceiling fan, doorknobs, various plumbing tubing and miscellaneous hardware.

Mr. Drappo said the space isn’t being cleared out for any particular shipment of supplies for the next build at 123 E. Lynde St. Space just needs to be available for whatever storage issues may come up with house builds, he said. In August, the board is expected to select the family that will own that Lynde Street home.

Meanwhile, the building at 1130 Superior St. is nearing completion. Mr. Drappo said construction of the single-story, four-bedroom house is ahead of schedule and could be completed as early as the first part of September.

He said commercial businesses and/or contractors interested in donating tools, equipment or labor for any of Habitat’s projects can call him at 783-8657 or Pamela M. Rajner, Habitat volunteer coordinator, at 486-7321.
