Unemployment statistics for June 2013 released by the state Department of Labor today show improved numbers compared to last year in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
In contrast with June 2012, Jefferson Countys jobless rate dropped in June 2013 from 9.4 to 8.8 percent, Lewis County from 9.5 to 9.0 percent, and St. Lawrence County from 10.8 to 9.6 percent. In contrast to May 2013, unemployment in Jefferson County decreased in June 2013 from Jefferson County from 9.0 to 8.8 percent, and in Lewis County from 9.3 to 9.0 percent; the rate increased in St. Lawrence County from 9.2 to 9.6 percent.
Despite improvement from last year, St. Lawrence County has the second worst rate statewide and Lewis County had the fifth worst.
Upstate New Yorks 52-county regions jobless rate in June 2013 also dropped compared to June 2012, from 8.5 to 7.2 percent. Statewide, unemployment over that same time frame decreased from 8.7 to 7.6 percent, while nationwide, the rate fell from 8.4 to 7.8 percent.
