LISBON – Picnic tables and playground equipment at Lisbon Beach and Campground were repainted last month thanks to Jesse M. Gleason who is working toward becoming an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Gleason, a senior at Lisbon Central School and a member of Heuvelton Boy Scout Troop 9, said he had been planning the project for the better part of six months.

“I live right down the road from the beach,” he said. “I figured I should give back to the community I’ve been part of for such a long time.”

A six-year veteran of the Boy Scouts, Mr. Gleason’s project at the beach involved coordinating other scouts and working with the Beach and Campground.

In total, the project gave fresh coats to the swing set, jungle gym, bike rack and picnic tables at the beach.

Ogdensburg Lowes donated the materials and supplies for the project, which took place on June 9, Mr. Gleason said.

Michael J. O’Neil, campground director at the Lisbon Beach and Campground, said the project was well organized.

“I was proud of the way they performed,” he said.

Mr. O’Neil said the facilities definitely needed a fresh coat of paint.

“They matched up different colors and made it look really good,” he said.

In fact, Mr. O’Neil was so impressed with Mr. Gleason that he offered him a job working at the Camp over the summer. Mr. Gleason has been working at the Camp for the past three weeks, Mr. O’Neil said.

The other scouts who helped were Alex Cole, Matt Rector, Nolan Rishe, Owen Kuca, Nolan Hogle, Jack Lake, Storm Sears, Jonas Tabolt, Dakota King, Robert Kelley, Kevin Gagnon, Matthew Wright, Josh Hunter, Lucas Brown, Mason Knauf, Conner Bouchey and Ben Jacobs.

Mr. Gleason still has to complete a scrap book before he will be finally considered to become an Eagle Scout.
