POTSDAM - Christopher C. Cowen was unanimously re-elected this week to a second, one-year term as Potsdam Central’s board of education president .

Serving as vice president this year will Ralph L. Fuller, who was also unanimously elected.

Neither man faced opposition.

The board also voted unanimously to increase tuition rates for non-district residents who attend school in Potsdam.

“Some districts do not accept tuition paying students, but we do,” said Superintendent Patrick H. Brady, who noted the amount charged by the district is based on recommendations from the state education department.

For students in grades k-6 ,tuition will rise from $3,302 for the year to $3,535 for the 2013-14 school year.

The increase for high school students is significantly more, rising nearly 20 percent from $6,970 to $8,353 for 2013-14.

When asked how many students would be impacted by the increase, Business Manager Laura Hart replied, “A hand full,” noting that several tuition paying students graduated from the district this year.
