MASSENA A North Lawrence man hopes to begin selling log furniture later this summer out of a long-vacant building on South Main Street that once housed an Agway store.
John L. Gardner, 53, said he has had a longtime dream of opening a retail business. He said he will be at Wednesdays village Planning Board meeting seeking site plan approval to sell log furniture and antique furniture at 528 S. Main St.
The building, owned by Timothy D. Alguire, is in a Commercial Transition District zone.
Mr. Gardner will be leasing the building and expects to have two people working with him at the planned Massena Marketplace and Homecraft Furniture. He said he also hopes to have other vendors selling antiques as well as used and new items at the store.
It will be year round. We are hoping to open around the first of August. We are still looking for vendors, Mr. Gardner said.
He is looking to start with 20 to 25 vendors, and eventually expand that number since he has enough spots for 60 vendors.
He said he is looking forward to the opportunity to accomplish something he has wanted to do for quite a while.
Were selling used stuff, antique furniture. Ive been wanting to do this for many years, selling stuff for the public, Mr. Gardner said.
Its all log furniture that Ive made. Ive been doing log furniture for four years, he said. Ive been building cedar log furniture and cabinets.
