FORT DRUM — Three construction projects on post planned for the 2013 fiscal year will proceed as funded, with final contracts scheduled to be awarded by the end of August.

Construction on the projects could begin as soon as September, depending on when the permits and designs are approved, according to JoAnne Castagna, a regional spokeswoman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Ms. Castagna said the Corps found “substantial savings” for the projects through the bidding process.

Though the process of awarding $138.2 million in contracts for the projects had been delayed by the Corps earlier this year, some of the contracts have been awarded in recent weeks.

The three projects supported by the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act are an aircraft maintenance hangar expansion, a new missile defense data terminal complex and a new soldier specialty care clinic.

For the hangar expansion project, the Corps already has awarded a $26,825,868 contract for one hanger and $12,760,653 for infrastructure to Vetco Contracting Services, Watertown. Black Horse Group LLC, Watertown, was awarded a $21,577,777 contract for a separate hangar portion of the project.

A contract to build a new aircraft control tower is scheduled to be awarded by Aug. 30.

The total allotment for the hangar projects was $95 million.

For the data terminal, the Corps awarded a $13,059,270 contract to Black Horse Group LLC. The total allotment for the work was $25.9 million

No contracts have been awarded for the soldier specialty care clinic; an award is scheduled to happen by Aug. 30. The allotment for the project was $17.3 million.
