HEUVELTON - The Heuvelton Modified Baseball team finished 11-2, 10-1 against Class D schools during the 2013 campaign under coach Andrew Rupert.
Contributing in every aspect of the season for Heuvelton were: Andrew Woodard, Cole Piercey, Jordan Macaulay, Ben Jacobs, Branden Cougler, Colin Trathen, Damien VanOrnum,Thomas King, Ethan Burwell, Jacob LaVigne, Jordan Fisher , Jack Lake, Mike Pray, and Hunter Lira,
Heuvelton 17, Hermon-DeKalb 3: The Bulldogs scored in every inning and used unselfish play and discipline at the plate drawing 11 walks. Defensively, Heuvelton allowed just three walks behind stellar pitching from Cougler and Trathen who fanned seven combined and allowed six hits.
Woodard went 2-5 with four runs scored, Cougler finished 4-5 with a double and a double while Macaulay went 4-5 with a double. Also contributing were: Piercey (2-5), Jacobs (1-5), VanOrnum (2-5), Trathen (1-5), Fisher (2-3),Lira (1-1), and Pray (2-3).
Heuvelton 10, Lisbon 7: Piercey (3Ks) and Woodard combined for a three hitter as four runs in the sixth keyed the win.
VanOrnum went 2-3 with two doubles while Piercey finished 3-4 and Woodard had a 2-4 effort. Jacobs (1-2), LaVigne (1-1), Burwell (1-2), and Pray (1-1).
Lisbon 16, Edwards-Knox 10: Woodard fanned seven in five innings and Trathen struck out three in two innings as Heuvelton allowed just four walks in the game and scored seven runs in the third inning.
Piercey crushed a homerun in a 2-4 effort. Macaulay and Woodard each finished 3-4 with a double. Jacobs (1-4), VanOrnum (1-4), and Fisher (1-4) all contributed.
Heuvelton 19, Hammond 4: Trathen struck out six and allowed three walks and two hits, Fisher fanned three batters and allowed just one walk and no hits and Macaulay added a strikeout and allowed two hits.
Producing 14 hits were: Woodard (3-4), Piercey (3-5), Macaulay (2-5), Jacobs (1-5), Trathen (1-4), VanOrnum (1-4), Fisher (1-4), Lake (1-4), Pray (1-3).
Heuvelton 6, Harrisville 5: Piercey singled and scored on a walk off double from VanOrnum in the fifth inning in the first game of a double-header. Piercey and Trathen pitched well despite 10 walks. VanOrnum went 3-3 with a double while Jacobs had a double. Piercey (2-3), Macaulay (1-3), Jacobs (1-3),
Heuvelton 11, Harrisville 9: Woodard went the distance in the win fanning five batters and allowing three walks and six hits. Heuvelton scored five runs in the fifth for a 11-8 advantage. Woodard went 2-3 with a double. Trathen finished 2-3 while Jacobs (1-3) and Fisher (1-1) rounded out the hits.
Heuvelton 22, Hermon-DeKalb 2: Woodard went 2-5 with a triple as Heuvelton scored in every inning. Offensively, Piercey (1-6), Macaulay (2-6), Jacobs (3-6), VanOrnum (1-3), Burwell (1-3), Cougler (1-3), Pray (1-2) led the way for pitchers Fisher (6Ks), Jacobs and Macaulay (2Ks).
Norwood-Norfolk 13, Heuvelton 10: Facing a bigger school that has no JV program, Heuvelton lost for the first time in the season but not without seller competitiveness.
Woodard (1-4), Jacobs (2-3), and Cougler (1-4) all produced a double for Heuvelton which also received good efforts from: Macaulay (1-4), VanOrnum (1-4), and Trathen (2-4).
Woodard (5Ks), Piercey (2Ks), and Trathen (5Ks) pitched effectively walking just eight combined batters.
Heuvelton 20, Lisbon 13: Woodard connected for a double and two singles in a 3-5 effort at the plate for the Bulldogs who scored six runs in the fifth inning. Piercey finished 4-5 and pitched the win with Trathen (1K) combining on a five strikeout, six hitter.
Other contributions came from: Macaulay (2-5, double), Jacobs (1-5 double), Cougler (2-4), VanOrnum (2-4), Trathen (2-4), and Burwell (1-4).
Heuvelton 16, Clifton-Fine 9: Macaulay (3-4) and Piercey (3-4) backed up the pitching effort as Jordan Fisher (3Ks) and Cougler (1K) did not allow a walk.
Offensively, Trathen (1-4), VanOrnum (3-4), Cougler (2-4), Jacobs (1-4 double), Macaulay (3-4, triple), Woodard (2-4) led the way.
Edwards-Knox 11, Heuvelton 8: Uncharacteristic play saw the Bulldogs make five errors, allow 10 walks and only produce five hits: singles by Woodard, Jacobs, Burwell, Lake, and VanOrnum. Piercey and Trathen (2Ks) fanned six batters.
Heuvelton 24, Hammond 7: Jacobs crushed a three run homerun, Macaulay went 4-4 with a double and Piercey finished 3-3 with a triple leading Heuvelton as Macaulay (6Ks) Jacobs (3Ks) and Burwell pitched a combined three-hitter.
Burwell (2-3), Fisher (1-1), Woodard (2-3) Lira (2-3) also hit well.
Heuvelton 12, Canton 7: VanOrnum supplied four hits including two doubles, Macaulay smacked four hits including a double, Jacobs ripped three singles leading the win where Woodard pitched and had two singles.
Piercey also singled twice (2-3) and Trathen (1-2) and Burwell (1-2) also contributed.
