MASSENA - Several agencies, including the Massena Rescue Squad’s dive team, were dispatched to a “water rescue situation” shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Grasse River area behind Calvary Cemetery.

“Our department and our dive team responded to an incident earlier this evening,” Massena Rescue Squad Chief Brenton LaGrow said.

Also on the scene were members of the Massena Volunteer Fire Department, Massena Village Police, New York State Police and U.S. Border Patrol, he said.

“We did go for a water rescue situation. We are now back in service,” Mr. LaGrow said shortly after 9 p.m.

He said they were on the scene for approximately an hour.

“We were only there an hour tops. It was quick work,” he said.

Mr. LaGrow said he was unable to provide any more information, including how many patients were involved and their names.

Massena Police referred all queries to Central Dispatch in Canton. Calls to Central Dispatch were referred back to the Massena Police Department, where no further information was available.
