DEPAUVILLE — Multiple police and fire crews responded Sunday to a car found on fire in a field on Lowe Road.

Crews from the Depauville and Clayton fire departments were called out at 4:41 p.m., and had the fire controlled in less than 15 minutes. State police also responded to the scene.

The Volkswagen Jetta was gutted by the fire, which Depauville Fire Chief Jason T. Rarick said “completely engulfed” the vehicle.

Nobody was in or around the vehicle at the time of the fire. Chief Rarick said a cause for the fire was not known.

Though multiple parties at the scene discussed that the vehicle may have been stolen earlier in the day, nobody was able to confirm the vehicle’s origin.
