The state will allow residents and visitors to fish without a license in any of the state’s 7,500 lakes and ponds or 50,000 miles of rivers and streams on Saturday and Sunday. Saltwater anglers also may fish in marine waters or for migratory marine fish species without enrolling in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry.

The fishing days are a part of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s NY’s Open for Hunting and Fishing campaign.

The initiative has included the streamlining of licensing, improved access to fishing areas and the stocking of fish across the state.
