ALEXANDRIA BAY — Many Fort Drum soldiers and their families spent a sunny Thursday enjoying the St. Lawrence River as a part of the post’s annual Riverfest event.

Hundreds of people who came out for the event took the opportunity to take boat rides around the village and Thousand Islands region, and attendees enjoyed a picnic at the village pavilion. The day also included time for a tour of Boldt Castle on Heart Island.

The event was the first of several events taking place in connection with the post’s Mountainfest event.

The post’s family day, open to post personnel and their families, will be Monday, while a remembrance ceremony for soldiers killed in 2012 will take place Tuesday.

The Mountainfest event, which is open to the public, will take place starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
