Hayes, Liscum combine to lead first Norwood Beach Duathlon Series race

NORWOOD - Near-perfect conditions greeted the field of 75 competitors who turned out for the first race of the 2013 Norwood Beach Duathlon Series on Tuesday.

The duo of runner Tyler Hayes and cyclist Tim Liscum combined to post the fastest time of the evening, finishing 11-mile course in 37.39.

Bryan Parker emerged as the leading individual finisher, placing second overall in 38.3 while leading the men’s division. The women’s division saw Emily Cotey fashion her second victory in the span of a week as she finished 12th overall with a time of 46.4 after having paced the opening run of the 2013 Summer Sunset Series last Tuesday evening.

Rounding out the top five in the men’s division were Jim Allott (40.32), Ethan Townsend (42.08), Chad Colbert (43.16) and Bryan Seymour (45.06). The next four women’s division finishers behind Cotey were Alicia Felt (48.37), April Barnes (49.48), Kendra Moran (50.07) and Amy Hollister (50.4).

The father-son tandem of Dan Casey and Dan Casey finished second in the team division with a time of 43.28. Placing third were David Barnes and Madi Dow in 44.22 followed by Tim Dumas and Mike Matejcik in 45.06 and Lauren Olson and Jake Cockwell in 47.02.

The next race of the series is slated for Tuesday, July 16. The other two are scheduled for July 30 and August 6. Each race consists of two 1.5-mile runs sandwiched between an 8-mile bike ride. For more information, call Pete LePage at 353-8836 or Steve Barr at 353-2867.
