A homeless man was charged by city police after he allegedly set a truck on fire in the 600 block of Hancock Street early Saturday.
Police said about 2:30 a.m. Donnie L. Barrigar, 29, poured accelerant into the front seat of the vehicle and set it on fire.
In a press release, police said they were first contacted by the vehicles owner, Andrew T. Martin, at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, after the fire had burned out. Police said they later developed Mr. Barrigar as a person of interest, and found him at his mothers home in Baldwinsville. After being found, police said, Mr. Barrigar made statements implicating himself in the crime.
Charged at 2:16 p.m. Saturday with third-degree arson, he was held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment in City Court.
