FORT DRUM — Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies charged a man from post with second-degree criminal contempt after he allegedly violated a stay-away order of protection by stopping at the protected party’s place of employment.

Deputies said Jason L. Mathis, 28, violated the order Saturday when he went to the post exchange and asked about the whereabouts of the protected woman.

The order was issued June 9 by LeRay Town Court, and is valid until the end of the year.

Charged at 4:50 p.m. Saturday on post by deputies and military police, Mr. Mathis was arraigned in Theresa Town Court and held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, on $1,000 bail pending his appearance in LeRay Town Court.
