Norwood-Norfolk receives two bomb threats in less than a week

NORFOLK — Two bomb threats were made within the past week at Norwood-Norfolk Central, with the second resulting in a lockdown of the middle and high school on Wednesday, according to Superintendent Elizabeth A. Kirnie.

Mrs. Kirnie said both threats were written on the walls and were discovered Friday evening and Wednesday morning. In both cases, nothing was found after a thorough search of the building.

The first incident, making a threat about Saturday night’s prom at the school, was discovered by an administrator Friday evening, the superintendent said.

“Troopers were immediately called in on Friday evening, and an inspection ensued,” Mrs. Kirnie said. “There was a more thorough inspection Saturday afternoon. That was dealt with very thoroughly.”

The second bomb threat was found by a student about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, resulting in the lockdown of high school and middle school classes. Middle and high school teachers were asked to lock their doors until further notice, but continued with instruction.

“For the most part, routines went on as usual, although we did request that students remain in their classrooms while state troopers did a thorough inspection of the school,” Mrs. Kirnie said.

She said this is the time of year when such threats typically are made.

“I don’t want to minimize any threat or any risk. ... You do have to consider in both cases, it was a student prank with credibility. We will take every threat seriously,” she said.
