MASSENA - The Orchestra Recruitment Tour, now in its ninth year, showcases the Massena High School Orchestra and the Junior High School Orchestra by performing for the four elementary schools in the district.

The tour has two main objectives:

■ To promote the string programs to the younger students in our district who will have the opportunity to play a string instrument when they reach fifth grade, and

■ To create an opportunity for the high school musicians to take a lead role in providing musical training, technical assistance and coaching to the junior high and elementary orchestra members in our district.

For each stop along the tour, orchestra members are greeted by the elementary orchestra musicians. The younger musicians get the opportunity to work with the older students, providing them with help and assistance with their music, which will be performed at their elementary concert at 7 p.m. June 4 in the high school auditorium.

At each leg of the tour, the elementary musicians are invited on stage to join the orchestra in a performance of “Pepperoni Pizza Rock” in concert. This performance provides a wonderful experience for both the musicians and audience members to see how orchestra instruments are played and how they are accessible to all students at each grade level.

The Orchestra Recruitment Tour features music that the high school Orchestra is preparing to perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. May 22 in the Massena High School Auditorium.

The selections include music from the film scores of “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory“ and “Alice In Wonderland” as well as music from Felix Mendelssohn and Brian Balmages.
