As Albany prepares for tomorrow’s tourism summit, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo detailed the impact of tourism on the Thousand Islands region, consisting of Jefferson, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties.

n An estimated 1.5 million tourists from across the U.S. take an overnight trip to the Thousand Islands region every year.

n Travelers to the Thousand Islands region spend an estimated $456 million every year.

n Tourism supports an estimated 8,606 jobs in the Thousand Islands region, generating an estimated $194 million in wages.

“Tourism is important to communities in all regions of New York State, supporting thousands of local jobs and generating millions of dollars in spending each year,” Gov. Cuomo said in a press release. “At the Tourism Summit this week, local officials from across the state will gather in Albany to find new ways to support the industry and continue to make New York State the place to visit for tourists from around the world.”
