A woman temporarily escaped city police custody Friday morning when she ran from officers while she was on her way to City Court, police said.
About 11 a.m., Amanda Sue Johnson, 31, of 29822 Route 3, Lot 10, Black River, took off and ran behind a car on Sterling Street before officers caught up with her and apprehended her, police said. Before Mrs. Johnson, who was wearing a transit belt, was captured, police yelled several times at her to stop, they said.
She was charged with third-degree escape, arraigned in City Court and sent back on $2,500 bail to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where she had been since Thursday.
On that day, Ms. Johnson was arrested on a bench warrant for an alleged probation violation.
