Timely hits, defense key Devils softball win

HAMMOND - Making economical use of four total hits and a big defensive play to end the game, the Hammond Red Devils softball team earned a 4-2 decision over Edwards-Knox in NAC West Division play on Tuesday.

Emily Bush led off the four run fourth inning with a single. Brittany Kron walked with one out. Macy Wilson followed with a two-run single which was followed by Gabby Marshall’s RBI single. Brianna Langtry drew a one-out walk and Marshall scored on Mikayla Horton’s single for a 4-0 lead.

The lead held until the seventh when Edwards-Knox scored twice. Molly Burger reached on an error, Sarah Rice lined an RBI single and scored on a Dakota Bacon second single of the game. Lauren Workman, Macy Wilson, Gabby Marshall and Alyssa Crosby - on a 9-3-5-6 relay to record the final out.

Horton hurled a three-hitter outdueling Makayla Bacon who struck out 10.

Harrisville 21, Hermon-DeKalb 4: Nine runs in the third lifted the Pirates. Jena Soper supplied a triple and a single, scored four runs and drove in two while Emory Matott singled twice and scored four runs.

Courtney Davis and Chelsey MacKay each went 2-3 for H-D. Clarissa Dafvis lined a double.

Hannah Weaver allowed just two walks in the eight hitter.


Harrisville 23, H-D 2: Jared Dreythaler went 3-6 with a double and five RBI, Nathan Weaver finished 4-6 with two RBI, Justin Hartle recorded a 2-3 effort with a double, Chris Sullivan tallied a 2-5 effort with five runs scored and Jack Manchester went 2-4 for Harrisville. Justin Hartle combined with Chris Graham on a 11 strikeout, one hitter.

Ryan Matthews singled and scored for H-D.
